Denpasar became the capital city of Bali province, replacing Singaraja, in 1958. Since then, most of the offices of the province have moved from Singaraja to this newly developed city. The most interesting part about Denpasar is the combination of tradition and modernity, proved by the existence of its exclusive banjar neighborhoods, dance groups and temple festivals.
Denpasar covers 123.98 square km of land and is divided into 3 sub-districts: West Denpasar, East Denpasar, and South Denpasar. It borders on Badung regency on the west, on Gianyar regency on the north-east, and on Indian Ocean on the south.

The average air temperature in Denpasar is 28º C with humidity varies from 60% to 97%.
Based on the statistics in 2002, total population in Denpasar area is approximately 491,500 people, with average population density of 4,080 people per square km and rate of growth average 3.01% per year.

As the capital of Bali Province, Denpasar is a center of any activities especially in economic industry. There are numerous facilities and economic structure in Denpasar area that support the economic growth of Bali in general.
