Date of Birth : 13 July 1942
Place of Birth : Chicago, Illinois, USA

Biography:

Harrison Ford was born on 13 July 1942 in Chicago and raised in a middle-class suburb. After high school graduation, Ford studied English and Philosophy at Ripon College in Wisconsin and began acting. He was expelled from the college three days before graduation for not completing his required thesis.

In the mid '60s, Ford and his first wife moved to Hollywood, where he signed as a contract actor with Columbia and Universal. After making a film debut as a bellboy in Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round (1966), he played secondary roles in several films and TV series such as Gunsmoke, The Virginian, and Ironside.

Difficult in providing for his family, Ford abandoned acting and taught himself carpentry via books. He proved himself a talented carpenter. It was also during this time that Ford got his famous scar as the result of a minor car accident.

Ford's luck as an actor began to change when he got a part as the gruffly macho Bob Falfa in American Graffiti (1973) which became a blockbuster movie and increased Ford's fame. However, Ford's career remained stagnant until he was cast as space pilot Han Solo in the megahit Star Wars (1977) and became a star.

After appearing in several films and landed the small role of Colonel G. Lucas in Apocalypse Now (1979), Ford rose to major stardom with The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and for his portrayal of action-adventure hero Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), which became a huge hit. He continued starring as Indiana Jones twice more, in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).

In 1984, Ford received a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his role as a big-city police detective who finds himself masquerading as an Amish farmer to protect a young murder witness in Witness (1984). He next starred in the dark psychological thriller Frantic (1988) and had greater success in Working Girl (1988), a comedy in which he co-starred with Melanie Griffith and Sigourney Weaver.

Then, Ford starred in the courtroom thriller Presumed Innocent (1990), which was followed by Regarding Henry (1991). Though the film was a total flop, but Ford gained success when he starred as CIA agent Jack Ryan in a series of movies based upon Tom Clancy’s novels, Patriot Games (1992) and Clear and Present Danger (1994).

After having huge success when he turned as Dr. Richard Kimball in The Fugitive (1993), Ford’s next films, the remake of Sabrina (1995) and The Devil's Own (1997) alongside Brad Pitt, did not meet similar success. However, his next film Air Force One (1997) proved that Ford was still a bona fide action hero.

Ford then starred in the successful romantic adventure Six Days Seven Nights (1998) in which he stranded on an island with Anne Hesche. He also appeared in the romantic drama Random Hearts (1999), followed by the horror thriller What Lies Beneath (2000) alongside Michelle Pfeiffer, and the deep sea thriller K-19: The Widowmaker (2002).

With his second wife, screenwriter Melissa Mathison, Ford has two children, Malcolm and Georgia. His other two sons from his first marriage are grown and have chosen careers outside of show business. Following his separation from Melissa Mathison, Ford now is dating Calista Flockhart, the star of Ally McBeal.
