Name : Charlize Theron
Nick Name : Charlie
Height : 5' 9½" (177 cm)
Date of Birth : 7 August 1975
Place of Birth : Benoni, Gauteng, South Africa

Biography:

Born on 7 August 1975, to a French father, Charles, and a German mother, Gerda, Charlize Theron was raised on a farm in Benoni, South Africa. Trained as a ballet dancer, she was sent to Milan at 16 to become a model after the death of her father who was shot by her mother in defending herself from his drunken abuse.

Tired of modeling, Theron moved to New York to dance with the Joffrey Ballet. Unfortunately, her career was halted by a knee injury, which led her to travel to Los Angeles to try her luck in acting. After a long struggle, she was discovered by an agent while fighting with a bank manager who refused to cash her check. Eight months later, Theron landed her first acting job.

After playing a bit part in Children of the Corn III (1994), Theron finally got the recognition with 2 Days in the Valley (1996) that led to her first leading role as Keanu Reeves' wife in The Devil's Advocate (1997) for which Theron garnered praise for her performance.

Her next film Mighty Joe Young (1998) earned Theron more positive notices. Her status rose after she starred in the cameo Celebrity (1998) that also featured Kenneth Branagh, Winona Ryder, and Leonardo DiCaprio. Then, she was rewarded with more significant role as a troubled young woman with secrets to hide in The Cider House Rules (1999).

In 2001, Theron was reunited with Keanu Reeves in Sweet November. Her status was strengthened after starring alongside Mark Wahlberg in The Italian Job (2003). That same year, Theron turned to more serious role in Monster, the crime drama based upon the real-life story of Aileen Wuornos, a prostitute who murdered seven men in Florida in the late '80s. The film was successful as Theron was honored with more than a dozen awards including an Academy Award.
